Brad Keselowski began his weekend at Michigan International Speedway traveling at a much slower pace on Friday than he will be in the Pure Michigan on Sunday. Before climbing behind the wheel of his No. For this years June race on the Irish Hills oval, Keselowski qualified at mph-plus. He was considerably slower during Friday mornings leisurely jaunt in the classic racecar. Now, you look at our cars and its about horsepower, handling and everything that matters to win on the Cup side. Back then, it was about just running. The race that Sweepstakes won, there were 40 entries and only two finished. The others all blew up or broke down and had all kinds of issues. The opportunity to drive the Sweepstakes provided Keselowski with perspective on where the sport once was and where its headed in There are a lot of little things we probably take for granted now as far as amenities are concerned. The sport is building and getting better all the time. The cars we have now are phenomenal pieces, under-appreciated by me. As Keselowski rolls further into the weekend, he and his fellow Cup Series competitors will be working with the lower-downforce aerodynamics yet again as NASCAR continues to manipulate specifications and regulations before finalizing next years rule book. Hopefully, it gets the cars to where we can run closer and tighter as a pack, and have even more passing. Keselowski firmly believes that another opportunity to test the lower-downforce rules at MIS this weekend will pay great dividends in In order to eliminate variables, the tracks been altered and we have the same package this weekend. It puts rubber down and opens the groove up. Sometimes, it works great. Other times, its a good effort that doesnt work. Im not sure what it will be here. Its frustrating and good at the same time. But I would rather win or finish 20th. To be right there, that close, is tough when its right in our sight. Its good and bad at the same time. We have four wins this season, so its been a very good year. The last five races, weve been in position to win and it hasnt happened. Sometimes, thats the way it goes – whether its leading a bunch of laps and having issues at the end, or getting caught up in someone elses wreck. Those things happen. Since claiming his fourth win of the year on July 9 in Kentucky, Keselowskis average finish over the next five races has been 14th. ET – with live streaming at MRN.
