If someone asked us to name the 10 most outrageous, most powerful, lightweight street machines, were percent sure a 4WD International Scout II wouldnt even make it in the first 1, Nevertheless, after having seen one of these exact machines transformed into the ultimate storm trooper on Discoverys Fast N Loud, wed have to put it near the top of our top list. As you can imagine, dropping a hp Hellcat Hemi and an eight-speed TorqueFlite into just about anything is going to have a transformative effect on it, and we recently got the chance to talk with Russell Holmes, shop manager of Gas Monkey Garage, who is also a huge fan of the classic 4WD off-roader. As we also discovered, Russells not afraid to play the part of purist, pointing the finger for spawning the Hell Scout squarely at Gas Monkey Garage owner Richard Rawlings. Because youre Richard, thats why, Russell said. They bought a whole bunch of Hellcat engines, and Richard had the last one of the group, and he wanted to do something really cool with it, so thats how that one ended up getting put in there. Yes, except it was strictly for Dodge SRT owners. Then, when the Demon was introduced, Dodge turned to Rawlings and the Gas Monkey crew for additional promotional help. One thing that doesnt come with all that SRT help, however, is engineering expertise. For that, Russell Holmes and crew turned to DiabloSport. Say Holmes Actually, what we ended up having was, we had Jonathan Rodriguez, one of the gas monkeys now, and he actually used to work for DiabloSport. So we get a lot of the Hellcat programming already done with them, and one of the issues they had was Richard was very insistent about putting the push-button start in there. Again, youre putting a Hellcrate engine in a Scout, and youre worried about the push-button? But those are the details that Richard wants, and that was programming they ended up having to have a really hard time with, more so than getting it to run right. That difference in mass is enough to prove terrifying. And I know hes a safe driver, unless hes doing, you know, a quarter-mile and he crashes into the wall, but we got in that car, and when I tell you certain things are not replicated on TV accurately, that car-slash-truck is the fastest thing Ive ever seen come out of the Gas Monkey Garage. When people say it pushes you back in the seat, that thing pushed me back in the seat, so that until he let off I couldnt come forward thats how many g-forces are in that thing. That is an unbelievably fast build. So we had to ask Russell, whatever became of the Hell Scout? Surely it ended up in a place of prominence in someones garage? So it drove around to all the TA Truck StopsI think theres like TA truck stops in the countryand it ended up visiting every one of those, and then a customer was actually able to win it. Close Ad. The popular Dallas restaurant and music venue Gas Monkey Bar N Grill is suing its founder, Richard Rawlings, for defamation and deliberate and deceitful attempts to get out of his contract, according to a lawsuit. Rawlings lawyer said in a statement that the claim does not have merit. The production company Pilgrim Films and Television, and the attorneys representing the northwest Dallas bar and Flaherty could not be reached for comment. Problems with Rawlings began before the bar near his Gas Monkey Garage even opened for business five years ago, the lawsuit says. During its construction, bar employee Tim Hinkhouse wrote in a May email, Richard has been extremely disruptive His treatment of the construction workers was beyond unacceptable His behavior is that of a spoiled 13 year old, according to the lawsuit.
