Led the UX design and project management process for the launch of the new Red Door gift card site. The site allowed guests to purchase both traditional physical gift cards, as well as digital gift cards. While physical gift cards are sold in the brick and mortar locations and via phone, the website has also been also a main vehicle for sales that include both delivery of physical and digital cards. The website purchasing experience, however, was not ideal, no responsive and had not been updated in a number of years. The new gift card site was built to reside on the front-end and allow users the ability to do a checkout purchase without having to sign-in or create an account anonymous checkout. The initial site was launched made on-time and launched just in time for the Christmas Holiday promotional period. I consider this project to be one of the most successful so far in my UX career. Unfortunately, due to the Covid19 crisis, Mynd filed for bankruptcy in March, and the active websites have been suspended. The business goals were very clear. We were missing out on a large amount of revenue due to the drop-off associated with the old gift card site due to. During this phase, I met with members of our gift card support team in the Tempe, AZ office for interviews to gain an understanding of fulfillment practices, pain points of delivery of both physical and digital gift cards as well as common customer issues when trying to purchase gift cards online. Competitive research was done comparing best practices among retail and industry specific gift card sites. Particular attention was paid to sites that offered separate physical and digital gift card offerings with an ease-of-use and a one-page checkout. Another constraint would be having to process payments and share information to the Open Bravo OB back-end database in order for gift cards to be able to be issued and tracked properly for both pre- and post-launch. Because of the scale and importance of this project, I acted as both the Lead UX Designer, as well as Project Managed with two different tech teams for this project Front-end and Open Bravo Teams , as well as organizational stakeholders in operations, the gift card group and marketing teams. A digital designer was also hired to work directly with me on this project. Prior to sketching and wireframing for the site, a feature-value matrix was put together to prioritize what would be included in the initial launch. Once completed, my developer counterpart and I put together a technical requirements document so that it would be clear the functionality that would be needed so that the front and back end components would work together properly. Since a main focus was bringing in guests through email campaigns, targeted advertising and SEO campaigns highlighting promotional periods, the pre-selected dollar amounts were chosen to match these campaigns. For digital cards, a calendar was added so that users could pre-select a date that the eCard would be delivered. A one-page checkout was also designed to allow users to complete their gift card purchase without needing to sign-in or create an account. I worked with the marketing teams, visual designer and developers to project manage through development and launch. Multiple visual iterations of each of the screens were managed using AirTable and were then delivered with specs to the development teams for coding. I also managed and documented QA issues for three weeks between multiple teams and device platforms mobile, desktop, tablet and operating systems to assure a seamless launch. Although this was a wildly successful launch, there were still iterations and changes to be made. After the initial holiday promotion period, we added additional functionality to the check-out process, allowing users to edit their gift card message and delivery options without having to go back to the product detail page. Six-months post-launch, although we were seeing an increase in revenue, average ticket value for promotional periods was stagnant.
